Joanie’s Student Nature Learning Fund (established 2014)
Joanie Letwin was a teacher in San Diego, Ca. She was a free spirited person who loved the outdoors. She would go kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, walking the ocean beaches, hiking the mountains, biking and so much more. She loved the land, the water, plants, animals and protecting the environment.
Joanie spent her last few years battling breast cancer. She was very courageous and continued teaching until 2 months before her passing on May 25, 2014.
Joanie’s goal was to make sure that every student had the opportunity to learn and to be the best teacher to them. It was her goal to teach children because that is the only way that they will learn to become responsible adults that appreciate life as a whole.
In remembrance of Joanie, her sister-in-law, Malia B., established “Joanie’s Student Nature Learning Fund” . The goal is to provide those students that cannot financially afford the learning programs at Camp Bayou to be able to participate through this financial aid.
